During a routine infant examination, Hayden’s pediatrician thought that something wasn’t quite right. He was sent over to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, where they ran additional tests and discovered that Hayden was born with kidney failure.
Following the diagnosis, both parents were tested to see who would be the best donor candidate and it was determined that his father, Dave, was the best match for a donor kidney.
Hayden received his new kidney at Cardinal Glennon, just one month prior to his third birthday. Throughout his young life, Hayden has endured a total of 24 surgeries, the most recent being a knee surgery in 5th grade. He continues to visit Cardinal Glennon every three months for regular checkups and enjoys visiting with his care team.
Hayden is in the 8th grade at Fort Zumwalt West Middle School. In his spare time, he loves to bowl and play basketball with friends. Hayden and his family are very active supporters of the Transplant Olympics and Hayden has competed in the games!
